Grimzy – I’ll be your guide to afterlife.
Grimzy is a metroidvania inspired 2D platformer where you play as Grimzy, a grim reaper tasked to escort lost souls from city of limbo to sweet afterlife. The project was my first project as Game Designer. The games core idea was to explore and find lost souls from the city of limbo in a classic 2D platformer and shooter elements with the unique twist of having the different souls you discover as your weapons and puzzle solving tools. For example the soul of the priest could heal you while sumo wrestler could dash forward and destroy your enemies.

Design comments
As this was my first project as game designer it was a learning experience for the most part with the most valuable lesson being “kill your babies”. There were too many features in the game for the deadline. The biggest challenge was doing the level design in the spirit of the metroidvania and having interesting enough souls in the game whilst creating a prototype that’d showcase the game right. I think I succeeded with the design for the gameplay mechanics and spirits, but what where I was left lacking was the level design where I didn’t iterate my ideas for the levels fast enough.
